What are the baits used for catching stripe?

Not sure about your lakes but it's about over below the dams here. The big fish show up in March and are gone by April , the smaller fish will stay till it gets hot (June) . Summer they'll be way up the cooler creeks in moving water. These dates will very depend on weather and bait from year to year.
In my teens I chased them religiously. One of my favorite fish. They hit like a Mac truck

Seems like in years past when we used to ski and tube I can remember seeing the stripe boils chasing bait. We pretty much didn't hit the water till after Memorial Day.

I've never been striper fishing myself, but I watch this YouTube channel pretty regularly and this thread reminded me of this video they posted where they took striped bass and turned them into "Poor Man's Lobster". It looked delicious to me, perhaps some of y'all could try it out and report back

Haven't ever tried stripe that way. But I definitely have done big ole flatheads that way. But I'm a fan of oysters, snails and escargot.

My dad and I fished below Wheeler Dam yesterday evening. It was an odd afternoon and I am not quite sure of what to take from it. They had the two northern most generators going full bore, I have never been there with some much current. The birds were fishing in a frenzy from 20 to 50 yards straight downstream of the generators. We fishes around for a bit on the edges of the strongest current, floated down a time or two, never doing much good. And then we found a spot right next to the outflow, near the dam but not in the violence. We would cast right into the churning water and within a second or two would be swept straight out away from the dam and then start reeling in. Caught 80 in less than an hour once we got on that spot. Brought back a limit. But it was the only place we caught fish. The shad must have been concentrated in all that churning water is what I am guessing.
