Default Kayak Trip Report, Barron Fork

I fished Barron Fork today, only caught four Crappie in three hours and all short. Decided to call an audible and see if the Gills were willing. They were hitting everywhere. Most were small, but I culled through and kept a limit. Best bait was a 1/64oz jig head on a tiny spinner with a 1" slider in orange and chartreuse. Visibility of about 12" and 58 degrees at 8AM, warmed to 65 by 4PM.

I'm using a Zebco Omega Pro (ZO2) spincasting reel with 4 pound Stren Magnathin on a 7 foot light action rod. It took several years of trying different combinations before I found the right mix. This allows me to toss a 1/32oz spinner into a stiff wind for good distance accurately.

What kind of rod are you using??After catfish and limbs I’m in the market for one for casting.

My favorite is an old Wally Marshal (they don't make it any more). Anytime I'm in a sporting goods store I always look at any light or medium light casting rods that they have. They're fairly rare, I have one coming from Bass Pro Shops now that I'm going to try, LOL.

My favorite rod I’ve ever had was a field and stream inferno light/medium and the don’t make them anymore. I bought a cheap Shakespeare rod to fish for gills and a catfish broke the tip off it. Lol. I’ll find me something. Got a pflueger rod that my president came on. But it’s not sensitive at all.
