    Congrats on a fine outing!

So when you're targeting real shallow fish like this, what would your strategy be if you weren't using any electronics?

My current setup is pretty bare bones - no electronics or spider rig setup - but I do plan on getting a fish finder and some rod holders mounted up front.

I was just curious how I might go about hunting fish without these things, and I mean outside of the obvious like structure sticking out of the water?

Electronics don't do anything for you in water this shallow, you can check the depth with the paddle, LOL. Beyond looking for cover and/or shade if a sunny day you just have to cover water. I like spider rigging because it allows me to cover 20 feet of water as I move around and unlike a big boat with a trolling motor you don't spook the fish. Clear water you'll have to cast to the fish, but muddy water you can jig eight or ten foot from your kayak in two feet of water and still catch fish. Sunday I saw what I thought was a gar next to a stickup in 18 inches of water, ended up being a 15 inch Black Crappie.

I know that’s right. If I could catch half on his slow day it would probably be the best day I’ve ever had. Lol

I’ve only fished with him once and saw enough to know that’s an accomplishment. I hung in there with Ditchbasser!
