Outstanding job! Glad you guys stayed at it and put it together !
Thanks for the invite ! I enjoyed the trip!
I started crappie fishing 4 years ago. It’s been a long, slow process and I’m not “there” yet but we’re finally getting to where we can find and catch some fish, single pole fishing on lake Guntersville. I detest bridge fishing due to the noise involved. I hear lots of noise at work 5 days a week and when I go fishing I want peace and quiet. This grass filled shallow lake has been very challenging for me to figure out. It’s not a brush pile, submerged tree top kind of lake. The majority of the docks aren’t fishable. and those that are get beat to death. Enough excuses....
My son and I went waaaay up river yesterday morning. As we went through Scottsboro I got my son to text Mitch to see if he wanted to go with us. He took us up on the offer and fished with us til about 1:00. We didn’t catch a crappie. Water temp is still too high for them to be stacked up where we were looking. It rained and rained and rained so we headed in. We dropped Mitch off grabbed some lunch and went back down to some of our normal fishing spots and found some small fish stacked on offshore wood structure. The bite was very subtle but we managed to catch about 20. The rain finally let up about an hour before dark and we tried some docks. We found some right before dark. We missed more than we caught but we did catch some nice ones. All in all it was a great day. I know 24 fish is small potatoes to some of you guys but my son and I felt like we had won the Crappie Masters tournament. It’s been a long time coming and I figure if we can catch em right now, it’s only going to get better. I’ve got to teach Fur-lite how to long arm fish like I do. LOL We also got to see one of Gods reminders yesterday. We were able to see both ends of a rainbow where they met the water. That was awesome. I'd like to thank Mitch for all the tagging along and advice he's given me since I started and also Glenn for the schooling's he's given me. All the advice I've been given in person and on here have made a huge difference.

I'm big on full disclosure. We caught 24. Only had 9 keepers. I'll still take it. The fish are still so scattered that they're hard to find stacked up. It's only going to get better as the water cools off. The water temp has been 70 degrees or so for 4 weeks now. It won't be long til the bottom falls out of it. We've caught way more fish than 24 in a day before and we've caught way more than 24 keepers in a day before, but we've never caught 24 fish in a day casting jigs on a single pole. You can find structure all day long on Guntersville but it's hard and rare to find the structure loaded with crappie. These fish stay in the grass most of the time and there's 1000's of acres of grass. It's not a find the right submerged tree and catch a limit of crappie lake. I honestly think if I ever get to the point of consistently catching them here, casting and reeling a jig, that I can go anywhere and catch them. I don't mean that to sound arrogant, this is just a tough lake to single pole. I enjoy casting a reeling so much more than multiple pole fishing. I could catch many more fish spider rigging stumps in creek channels but it's just not my favorite way to fish. I don't mean to sound for a second like I'm dissing spider rigging or long lining, because I do both from time to time, I just prefer to cast and reel. I guess that's the old bass fisherman coming out in me.
Damion, here's a link to the video. It was an awesome sight in person and showed up well in the video.
