My GF and I are headed to Gulf Shores next month. I've never fished saltwater. I wanted to see if any of you folks were around that area and could offer suggestions on guides, charters, piers, baits, etc.
Im down there right now and fishing the bay from my boat last 3 days. Caught a lot of smaller speckled trout not many keepers but good numbers. Best inshore guide is Yano Serra or William manci, i haven't used them in years so not sure is there still fishing

Thanks. I'm hoping to catch something huge or something I want to eat (like amberjack, mahi mahi, etc). Any ideas on what species should be "hot" in Oct? Also, do you know of any species "guides" that will show me photos and tell me what is what? I know the species around Memphis, but know nothing of salt water fish.
Amber jack and Mahi Mahi are off shore fish and you would need a bigger boat that would take 5 or 6 people to make it affordable. Inshore is what I was doing and it's more affordable. You might catch red fish trout or flounder, some guides do triple tail as well.

If you want to do some surf fishing go by J&M tackle and talk to them they will help you out just tell them what you want to do that's what I did to start with and a couple of them guide on the side but they don't mind helping out of town people out.
Find a speckled trout specialist. More consistent catch rates than offshore fish, more economical, fun to catch on lite tackle, excellent eating fish . I wouldn’t give you a nickel for redfish. To strong tasting.

Just drive over to Venice La. Hull out the 2000 plus fuel for a tuna charter and you will catch something huge that you can eat. Myself I would try to catch me some yellow mouths. Cheaper and much better eating and you might catch a Red. Not very good eating but will pull your string
I used to target shark when I lived on the Georgia coast and kept three or four Bull sharks each year that were in the five to six foot range to eat. Most trips inshore I'd hook at least one I'd never get to see. I've brought some eight to nine foot sharks to the boat and cut the leader on some trips. If you want huge!
