Go early. Fish multiple rods. I normally noodle fish in 15 ft.but that's chunking 50 or so noodles where they have been before. Most all blues.
Would like to try and catch a stringer of cats tomorrow. What kind of water and cover would y’all be looking for this time of year when it’s so hot? Targeting channels mainly fishing with punch bait.

If you have access to a canoe or john boat I can PM you an area where you can load up. I usually don't fish for cats, but have caught over 40 channel cats in under three hours.

Thanks DB, I won’t be able to get ahold of a boat of any kind tomorrow but that’s a generous offer. I truly hope to get myself a kayak by end of the year, just got a few other things in line ahead of it right now

Sorry for the delay in reporting back.
I fished pretty much all day, ended up with 3 good keeper channels. I tried a few different spots anywhere from Cotaco Creek back over to the causeway in Decatur on 31 with no success. I ended up going back to a little place on Flint Creek that I have fished quite a bit and caught them there. Although I started the day off using a Carolina rig setup on the bottom with punch bait, I changed over to chicken liver under a bobber by the end of the day.
Funny thing is, I waited for about an hour at the last spot before the fish started biting with 2 poles out, hadn’t got a bite all day. Then (of course) one bobber goes down and as soon as I hookup with that fish another one takes the other line under!
It was a long, hot day and I was happy to have some groceries to bring home when it was over. I’m ready for cooler weather lol.

catchNgrease thanked you for this post
I know it's a little late but my favorite place to go to put channel cats in the freezer is the Guntersville Dam tailwater. FWIW, I have always been told August is the best time to catch them there as well....not sure the reasons.
Thanks for this tip, I’d still like to make another trip or two for cats soon so I may ride over there.
