I spent the day on Town Creek and found Shellcracker beds in a half dozen areas and gill beds in two. Fun day on the water, kept half a limit. Largest Shellcracker was 12 1/2", largest Gill was 9 1/2", returned many 9" and 10" Shellcrackers. Casted the banks with a 1" slider, following up with a redworm when I found some beds. I also spent some time jigging the old boat dock on the northwest end of Town Creek with a 1/32 White Marabou jig and caught 5 Crappie, four were 15" slabs. All the Crappie were returned. Looked like Town Creek has dropped about a foot I the last couple days from the Green moss on banks and laydowns. The water was stained, with visibility of about 18" and 72 degrees. Anyone looking to have some fun with the kids, I probably returned a couple limits of Shellcracker and the small gills were non stop in the afternoon.
Great job sounds like a good day and very good report.

After a nights sleep and thinking about it, two things of note from yesterday.
1) I typically only fish Town Creek 2 or 3 times each April for big Shellcracker. I've found them in the same areas each year, but yesterday those areas were void of fish. There was also much more green moss, but less of the grass that usually grows just above the water line out to about two feet of water. Maybe I was catching the second wave and they spawn in different areas, but just seemed strange. I fished the areas where I've normally caught them for the first half of the day, before going into search mode checking the banks in new areas.
2) This is the first time I've ever caught a Crappie in Town Creek. All the fish were extremely skinny for their length and two of them were dark, dark indigo. This would be more typically of a post spawn staging area and the fish's condition matched that, but it's late May?
It seems like the high water and cool spring has thrown everything off.

Great report DB, glad you got in to em and found some new areas to look at again next year.
Bob D, You're the one that told me about this place and the huge Shellcrackers. I still haven't caught any monsters, but it's good to learn a new place.
Thanks for the report and your 2nd thoughts. My experience is weak compared to yours but I have noticed the lack of grass and the abundance of algae and the fish not being where they should be. Not sure if it has moved them or making it harder to present a bottom bump that those Wilson fish love.

I had a couple of areas this year that had been great in the past, but overgrown with grass this year and no fish.
