Lay report / full moon question
I went to Waxahatchee creek on Lay lake yesterday and fished from about 9 to 3. Water temp was 70, and the water was stained. I fished docks in about 12 to 20 feet of water, and a little standing timber. I caught a few little bream on minnows and about a 7 or 8 lb blue cat on a jig, but didn't manage to catch any crappie at all. I tried about a dozen docks, but no dice. This was the first time I have fished there for crappie, but I thought for sure I could find a couple shooting.
It made me wonder about how the full moon affects crappie fishing. I have heard that, other than bream fishing, that the full moon can have a negative impact on fishing. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Or any wisdom about Lay?

I have not been able to find crappie in many places on lay this year. Or let me rephrase that, I have not caught many this year. I fish the lower end also and from my experience if they are not dropping the lake level meaning they need to be discharging more water at Lay dam than they are at Logan Martin dam. I have a hard time getting the crappie to bite when the water is backing up. I have found a lot of crappie in a few places and I have just had to keep casting and catch one now and then out of a big school of fish. They just have not been biting real good in my opinion because of the generation schedule circumstances this year.

Thanks for the replies. I am not good about checking the water generation schedule, I need to be more aware of that. I plan to go back to lay in the next couple weeks and try it again. I will make a report.

My take on the full moon fishing. When I used to fish for bass I would love a full moon fishing night time. The full moon put the bass on the bank lot of fun to be had. Now since I just fish crappie,the crappie will roam the waters at night hard to get them come to lights. Since they feed just about all night it will be hard to get a good morning bite. I think if a person going to fish during the daylight hours be better to go out around mid day the fish will be hungary and the bite will be good. This is my take on full moon fishing.

I really don't think it affects if they will bite but it seems to make them short strike. I'm betting this cold front probably slowed them down. I didn't waste my time going this past weekend for that very reason. I few of my friends went and didn't do very well.
