Default Kayak Trip Report, I-65 Slough

I fished the slough on the North side of the Tennessee River under I-65 this morning. Once I got to the slough I found it had been pumped down lower than I’ve ever seen it. I almost gave up before I started with only 12 inches of water in the slough and large carp and buffalo everywhere, but decided to give it a chance since I’ve caught so many good crappie from the hole over the years. Well, fishing was great with many missed, a limit kept and several more thrown back. Best bait was a 1/16oz jig head with a Chartreuse Bobby Garland body. I spider rigged 6 poles again with baits just below the surface, maybe 8 or 10 inches deep.

Nice report, never hurts to try something like that.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I believe if he had 6" of water in a mud hole he could catch a limit....good job Ditch.

Looks like an opportunity to do a GoPro video. Great catch!

Awesome! I travel from Hartselle to Madison everyday and have often wondered about that ditch.

Not sure water is even needed.

I'm with Scott on this one. Seems like all you need is a mud puddle DB! Congrats on another great day on the water!!

You guys keep cracking me up, LOL!!

My tactics and gear have evolved to take advantage of skinny water. Beyond that, I'm simple fishing for Crappie where no one else is. If I went to Guntersville, I'd be lucky to pick up half a limit plowing the same water as every other angler.

Friday morning I fished Bradford - One other angler, Z-man who came with me.

Saturday morning I fished behind Rockhouse - One other angler, Alexave who came with me.

Sunday morning I fished the I-65 slough - never saw another person.

Find a slough, gravel pit or pond that's inaccessible and I'll show you a bunch of dumb fish waiting to be caught. I've just adapted my gear and tactics to get to them.
