    Default Weiss advice

Hi Guys. Me and the wife are planning on coming to Weiss the first week in April for a week fishing trip. She loves to striper fish and I love to crappie fish. I understand that Weiss is a great lake for both. Had a few questions. That time of the year, will the spawn be over there? Also I love to pull crankbaits for crappie. How is pulling cranks on Weiss? Many white crappie in the lake? Thanks for any help.

I would say Weiss is 80% black 20% white crappie first week of April you will find fish shallow and still staging the fish there get a lot of pressure as soon as a big school gets located in a creek or river channel there will be fifty boats beaten up on em longlining jigs through them till they shut down as far as crankbaits that’s probably to early and the stripers will be slow in early April, hope this helps

Most years they seem to be spawning some time around late March to early April. I have a feeling if we don't get much cooler weather it maybe a week or so early. I wouldn't worry about if they are spawning, it will be good fishing that time of year regardless!

That should be a good time to fish Weiss. Forget the cranks unless you own pico, bandit or Arkie. You would lose many baits fishing here. Plus most crappie in Weiss are blacks although whites seem to be making a come back. If you want stripers you need to go to Smith Lake in Cullman. Deep clear lake with some monsters in it. I don't catch or see as many stripers here on Weiss as I once did. Hope they died. By first week of April you should be able to longline, shoot docks or fish shallow stumps and brush on Weiss.
