I guess I'm just old fashioned. I like opening the hood and seeing the engine, not all the plastic covers and hoses run every where. I had a 67 chevy c10 with a 350 and could crawl in the engine compartment and close the hood all the way...lol. No emission nothing. 650 holley single pumper got me all the power we needed. Now if I could find one like that with a custom extended cab, or custom dual cab, I wouldn't need to worry about buying another truck ever...

me too....i open the hood on a new truck and don't even know what half of the stuff under there is.....mostly a lot of very expensive computerized stuff that has a high % chance that it will have to be replaced in under 100,000 mi. .......and a lot of stuff i don't need , i don't need a throttle-position sensor , i already have one , its at the end of my leg , its called my foot......another thing , i am betting there are many here that live out in the country , like i do ,,no matter how much poison you put out in the car-shed , there are going to be field-nice and rats ( even chipmunks ) that will crawl under your hood and chew the night away on all those plastic wires and doo-hickies , ....the less stuff under the hood that i have to fix , the better.......and i even put packs of rat-poison on the manifold.......on these new trucks , the manifold is under a layer of stuff the rats like to chew on...........

I here you I do...It's funny you mention the TPS sensor, I just replaced one on my '95 f150. Yes I love my Chevy's, but the wife bought this before we got together, and I must say it's pretty reliable...Gets worse fuel mileage of anything I have owned except one, and those were tractor trailer rigs. This two wheel drive f150 with a stock 5.0 fuel injected truck get 10 mpg on average. I think it should be better, but am told that's about right...All I can say, is it's got to get better...

yes , it seems to me it should get better mileage than that , maybe it is the gear ratio ? i had an old scout 800a and it's mileage was about what you state for the 5.0 , and it was a 4 cylinder !! but it had super low gearing ....i love the old dodge 2500s with the cummins , i use to work 150 mi away from home , 75 mi there and back , and drove a 1997 dodge 2500 with 36 gallon fuel tank , and i could make 4 trips before i had to fill up again , now i have a 2002 dodge with the cummins , auto , 4x4 and only 110 , 000 mi , it has given me a lot of trouble with the tps sensor , and had to put a noise reducing thing to keep electrical interference from the computer .....if i had a chance at a first generation dodge with the cummins and manual trans , i would try my best to get it ,,, but they are high$ and hard to find.......i just love the old , simple , easy to work on vehicles ...

I was looking at a mid-size truck to replace this on but the better half says no!!! She likes the comfort of a full size and wants a four door with a full 8' bed...So I think I'll hold onto this one a bit longer. Standard cab F150 with an 8' bed. I bought a shell for the back, and it's all paid for...I am not shelling out what they want for new trucks period. Besides what she wants would be a special order if I could find a dealer willing to order it...

i like the full size trucks too ....and like you said the new trucks are insanely high priced , i would never pay what they are asking.....and i probably will have to stick with my 2002 dodge with the tps irritation , because i am getting old and don't really go anywhere that much anymore.....and it will probably outlast me , tps and all !!!!
What did you get Joe ?
