    Default El Niņo weather

With all this rain and our TVA system having flowed so hard for so long, what kind of effect will this have moving forward for this year and the next.

Hard to say, I think the water temperature will be more of a factor. If it warms up fast like last year it will be more spread out. If the cold stays till spring it will be better as all the fish will be at once.

Right now about all its doing is helping keep a few more crappie not get caught as a lot of people will not brave fishing in the rain. The biggest concern is how the spawn will be effected. if the water stays high then drops quick during the spawn we will lose a lot of the spawn. ideally it needs to stabalize either stay high or stay normal . even worse if TVA gets caught up and decides to drain the lake , then it comes another monsoon right as the crappie go to spawn in the low water , the water will make the eggs too deep to warm enough to hatch thus losing another spawn. This happened 3 years ago on the big G that is why there are very few 7 to 8 inch crappie being caught this year or at least where my friends and i fish. All fish so far are 10 plus inches. I have had 4 throw backs under 10 in this winter .I fear next year there will be a fall off on the numbers but the ones that you do catch will be bigger than the norm. Good thing they spread their spawn out over 6 to 8 weeks so a few do make babies.

The TVA website says flow rate for Guntersville is north of 150.000 cfs and "Spilling until further notice" There shouldn't be a piece of driftwood left above the dam by now. I don't know how much rain we got yesterday but I haven't seen road flooding like we had on the mountain in a long time.

I don't keep up with the long range forecasts, does anyone know when this El Nino is expected to weaken?

Guys we are worried about things we have no control over. Everyday I say I am sick of this rain and then I realize the Lord is giving it to us for a reason. We may not understand but he knows what he is doing. God tells us in his Word that he looks after his creation. That includes crappie and crappie fisherman. Every day I see things in nature that make me marvel at his work and his glory. Let's pray for patience and before long we will have some good fishing weather.
