Never fished it with the kayak but fished from the bank. Might take the yak out there oneday and see what I can find.

Sounds like a good day. I've got to get over there and check that place out.

I love that place, always fun to go out there.
I love Madison County Lake! Me and my Dad found out about it in Feb and have been there to fish it several times since. I am coming back down in early Nov and Madison County along with DeKalb County Lake will be spots we hit. I am looking forward to when they stock the Trout pond and plan on coming back down in Jan to fish that.
Trout fishing starts day after Thanksgiving, Friday.
Got my time off at work locked in for me to be down there from 10/3 to 10/11. Me and dad plan on hitting Madison county a few times and probably Guntersville a bit from the bank. I have some C.C decals on my car so if any of you are at the lake and spot me feel free to stop and say hey!

The key for the Crappie is the brush piles, some are marked. If you have a GPS the lake manager should have the coordinates for the old ones from previous years that are no longer marked. Since the water is typically very clear, I start by casting a small 1/32oz jig into the area usually picking up a few. Next I'll move directly over the brush using my fishfinder jigging slowly picking up a few more. Once you catch the active fish or they spoke I move on, but will return a few hours later to pull more out of the same areas. I usually hang at least one or two good bass and several catfish jigging the brush piles. A couple weeks ago I landed a bass in the 6 pound range on a crappie jig. Last time out all the fish were in 10 to 15 feet of water including the shellcrackers, but they should start to move shallower as the water cools.

I gave Madison County Lake a try this morning. Not many people there. Only caught one crappie and one bass. Had many hits. Probably should have concentrated on one pole instead of trying to manage three. It looks good on YouTube, but everything looks easy on YouTube. Something pretty good sized broke me off at the drain. I’m gonna call it a monster since I didn’t land it. LOL. I think the fish are there but I’m still a little weak at getting them in the boat. A more experienced fisherman probably would have caught many. Gorgeous day on the water, even if I don’t get to fry fish tonight. There’s always next time....

By the way, surface water temp was 75 degrees.
