Default Tennessee river - Huntsville area

Anybody on here ever fish the Tennessee river for crappie near Huntsville? I always see Guntersville posts, but would like to fish the main river closer to home after work during the week if there are any crappie to be had. I’m kind of new to this and don’t like to wait for the weekend.

Lots of fish out in the river it will just take you some time figuring out where they are. If you have decent electronics it want take you long to put things together look for submerged rocks and trees also look for bends in the river Chanel anywhere their is a current break they will usually be holding up their also check the mouth of creeks feeding into the river
good luck and keep us posted on your trips! Also welcome to crappie.com lots great folks here

You would be surprised at how many there are in the Mouth of the Flint River. I have fished up it & down it. You'll find stripes, white bass, LMB. Catfish, etc., but there are some good pockets of crappie. Usually fairly "virgin" territory as the Bass Boys don't want to skin up their boats. A few kiyakers, but few pan fishermen.
If you are bank bound, right around Ditto Landing, up Aldridge Creek a bit, under the Whitesburg Bridge are pretty fair spots & easy to get to.

I fished from my kayak under the I65 bridge last Saturday night. That's a little farther down the river than you may be looking. I fished from before dark until after midnight. I caught one gar. I considered fishing up the river around Ditto, and I wish I had, but I don't know if I'd have done any better. I probably should have brought bass gear instead of crappie, but I've been wanting to catch some crappie.

This is good info. I appreciate it. Keep it coming. A little background... I’m in a 16ft Jon boat with a 9.9hp motor. A little better than bank fishing, but limited on range from a boat ramp. I’ve put in at Arrowhead, Triana and the arsenal. Not tried Ditto yet. Are there ramps near Flint dumping into the Tennessee?

I live in Madison and do a lot of fishing at Cotaco(about 1-2 miles SW across the river from the Triana boat ramp). There is alsoa boat ramp at the Sharps Ford bridge on Cotaco. This is my favorite area tofish in the Madison/Huntsville area and you can fish just ab any type of wayyou want.

A lot of guys have done well at Indian Creek andArrowhead - I have had too much luck but others have. Be careful at Arrowheadthere are some shallow areas and flats. Also, there is a big shallow flat onCotaco, so be careful you don't run your boat where it opens up about half wayup the creek or you will beach your boat! - Don't ask me how i know this lol

There is a ramp Ive used several times with our 12ft jon boat. Its called Clouds Cove, its a couple miles into the flint river. Its just a dirt/gravel road that goes diagonally into the woods but opens up to a small boatramp. Look around that area on satellite photos and you should be able to locate it.

Ramp at Hickory Hills . Right in the middle of flint creek.
