You can always shorten the shaft, if you ever get into pulling cranks at 1.3 to 2.2 mph hours you will wish you had that 15 inches back. Longer shaft equals more bite, less cavitation and increased time overall on battery life. If I just rigged or single poled all the time a 45 would be fine for me as well. Anyway, not meaning to rant or nothing, you guys keep after them!

I'm gonna give pulling cranks a try. I fished today and caught some spider rigging early but around 9:30 they shut down. It was HOT by then. I found fish in deeper water but couldn't get one to bite. I have never fished during the day during the hottest part of summer. If I'm gonna do that this year, I may have to get me an umbrella for my chair or a bimini top to cover the front deck. I don't mind sweating but sitting there in the hot sun is not my idea of fun. There aren't many shade trees on the creek channels, so I'm gonna have to make my own.

I'm pretty sure the shaft on an Ulterra can't be shortened.

You are correct, never had the pleasure of fishing in a boat with an Ulterra, seems they have to fully deploy and the computer will try to deploy the full 60 inches and not recognize the 45" shaft and stop. Get you a Sports Brella XL, they can be found at Academy Sports or Sam's Club, they fit perfectly into a 3/4" seat base pin. May have to grind a little paint off they fit that snug, you will want to mount it in a seat pedestal to give you the extra height. When fishing two off the front can mount it in the center pin, if fishing by yourself you can mount in either side left of right of you as the sun direction dictates. I agree, I refuse to fish the summer months without shade!

Well, it was no fowl hooked grass carp, but it sure looked like it was pulling good.

Those big bass are a lot of fun on the long rods!!! I've caught many 6+ over the years on crappie gear. Congrats of a great day out.
