Most of the double seat set ups out there all have issues stepping over to get to the back, there is never a hurry for me to get to the back , you get use to it and learn to take your time

I just purchased a nitro z8 and plan on putting 2 bases in the front if at all possible. My thoughts on it are get a piece of plywood cut it to fit up front and start mounting things to it so I can move them around until I get it just the way I want it.

I'm with G , add bases if at all possible. Mount a seat ( or seats) on plywood , set them in boat , move them around till you have them like you want , mark floor, then add/mount bases, if that is possible. If not , maybe due to storage lids?? We don't know because you didn't tell us , you will need a double rig. Measurements from other boats probably won't help much, because every boat is a little different. If your boat is a dedicated crappie rig , I'd go bases, even if I had to pay a professional to install them. Likely still be cheaper than a double seat rig, and much cleaner floor plan.
The bases are the only way to go IMO, it was a key factor in buying my new to me boat recently. The one I purchased allowed to access the underside of the deck thru the storage lockers without being actually mounted in the hatches themselves. If you must choose a double seat base frame, look into one that is as flat or flush with the floor as possible so you can enter/exit seats thru the middle without the trip hazard.

I put in 2 seat bases in my boat. I wish that I would have got something else to use. If you want to sell your boat it will just about have to be a crappie guy to buy it. The bass guys would complain about the 2 extra bases.

You could put a anti fatigue pad and New carpet leave bases under pad and your bass guys would never know.

I would prefer base plates , but my boat layout along with my rod locker lids couldn't support a base plate, that's why I have the Side Kick
