Default Advice for Memorial Day weekend.

Hey guys, I could use your advice because I get myself confused sometimes about how to start my day fishing. I'll be fishing from Jennings Ferry Campground on Warrior Lake of the Black Warrior River. Water temp. is going to be mid 70's and some creeks clear up quick but the larger creeks are going to be very dingy from the rain this week. The river will be dingy to muddy. We never know when they will pull water over there. I see the new moon is tomorrow night. I'm still a rookie at jig fishing but I'm set up to push 4 12ft rods, single pole vertical, cast & retrieve or float and jig. I'm trying to break my addiction to minnows. lol

If I where going to push jigs I would good with a black and chartreuse roadrunner because of the muddy water. Now take what I said with a grain of salt because I am no expert on pushing jigs. I'm sure some of the more experienced guy will help you more than I can. Now casting I do know and I would try shooting docks if any are around where you're going.

10/4 on that. There are some docks but they are in 4 to 8 fow. Do you think that's to shallow?
I will push some road runners over the creek channel and points for sure.
Now, if the creek is dingy do you think the fish will be holding close to wood and I would need to vertical jig blow downs and standing timber? Or given the time of year it is, look to deeper structure?

Do to the cold front that just blew through, fish should be tight on the cover.

I would try the black and chartreuse too. I also throw two pink 1/32 jig heads with mine at times if my bites are slow. The main thing is getting to the fish so they can see your bait. I gave up on minnows several years ago but I would buy them in a heart beat if it was a guaranteed catch. I also use ultra light gear and run 2# at times pending the structure or not. You would be surprised what you feel with that ultralight set up and 2# test line. Just get out there and have some fun. A bad day fishing beats your best day at work.

Thats what I love about this site folks willing to help and offer advice to a fellow fisherman.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.
