Default Kayak Trip Report, White Springs WNWR

I took the day off work and went to White Springs today, good day to be on the water. Kept half a limit of gills and crackers, returning more than I could count. Best bait was a 1/12oz Mepps in-line spinner (with a single hook, instead of a treble). I didn't find any bedding fish, but found scattered fish everywhere eager to take a bait. The moss in the ditch paddling in was hell, probable the worst I've ever seen it but plenty of open water in and around the spring. The water was clear and 63 this morning, warming to 72 before it clouded up this afternoon.

Nice job, I imagine the paddle in and out was work.

The paddle in and out was hell, about 2/3 of the ditch is solid moss I had to push across. It's a great little area once you get in though.

Ditch have you ever tried get getting into there by coming in from the river/back water to the dyke area and pulling the yak over the dyke(not very far) ? The biggest problem is where is the closest place to launch?? If you can get in on the left side of the causeway somewhere it is almost the same distance as the canal from there. Also, changing subject, I have seen a lot of fishing activity in the pits at Ditto landing again, even saw a truck parked by the upper pond. I guess it could be the city official and some of his buds but looked more like real yaks to me(grin) .

I returned to White Springs for some catch and release fishing today. I caught gills all over, best tactic was single pole jigging with a 1/32oz Chartreuse Marabou jig on the edge of the Lilly Pads and Button Brush. I even returned numerous Crappie.
