Thread: Opinion on jig head colors

You will hear that nothing matters. Not jig or head color or body style or nibble or scent attractants.

But you won't hear it from me.

For me...fishing year round in all types of conditions and depths and water colors and casting and long poleing and under a bobber etc....

I would rather have the jig body color and style that I want and a plain lead head...than a painted head with a jig body I did not want.

The color of lead very closely matches a shade of grey on a lot of baitfish as it fades from the back to the belly.

I like a couple black dot eyes on my heads but I don't often take the time to paint them on.

I greatly admire the guys who say all they have to do is get it in front of one and they will bite it. I wanted to be one of those guys but it didn't work out and I swear I tried.

I like contrasting colors when I fish jigs. It's more fun to me that way, to try and figure out a color combo that produces better.

catching fish has a lot to do with confidence. If you believe painted heads make a difference by all means paint them. I don't paint mine but that's my personal opinion. If you have confidence in what you doing you will be more attentive to the things that really matter such as depth and water calarity.

I make my own and I use plain heads a lot but there are time color definitely make a difference about 2 years ago I was fishing a group of fish pre spawn and just had re spooled my favorite rod not to spook the fish I tied a hot pink head on let the line twist come off and castes away from the fish to make sure the line twist was out a 3/4 pound black crappie hammered the bare hook with pink head! That caught my attention �� That's my .02

I started using colored jig heads this year. I fish in stained water and noticed one night my buddies weren't getting any bites. I put a pink head on top of my black and chartreuse curly tails and the crappie got crazy, lol.

Guess I'm just gonna have to experiment more.its about past my time of catching any from the bank.but I'll work with different things this fall.thanks for yalls input and info.

I forgot to mention 95% of my crappie are caught off a pier. I may pick some up walking the shoreline but I'm a pier fisherman for the most part.
