Good catches are being reported by friends. Mostly over emergent grass in 3-5 ft, using bobber and jig. Color doesn't matter much if you find fish.

Depends on who you are and where you are and how much of it is fish tales vs the real thing HAHA but IMO the spawn as far as the big black crappie are concerned is about over with the smaller 9 to 10 in coming in at the last to spawn now . Spawned out girls are hanging around 8 to 10 ft right now .The few whites remaining in the lake should be at peak spawning , just not as many and they don't like grass so blow downs and old stumps are good . Water temp is 70 plus up toward Scottsboro and between 68 and 72 on the lower end around Gville.

IMO, G'ville is on it's 3rd year of decline for crappie. I went on Wednesday and caught only 9 crappie. I hit at least 5 of my "surefire" spots and could only muster a couple fish from each spot. That said, they were all 12" or bigger fish, with 2 of them going 16", one black and one white. The numbers just aren't there. In 2014, we were easily limiting out every time we went out (and only kept fish when we needed them), in 2015 we could get about 24-25 per person, last year could only get about 18 per person, and this year can't even get double digits. And I don't think it's just the crappie, we typically pick up some very nice shellcrackers when we go out, but those declined as well and I didn't get any last year or so far this year. Even bass; typically pick up 3 or 4 each trip.....and 3-5 lb'ers usually, now we may only get a couple and they are 12" fish. The ramps I pass have about 25% of the traffic they've had over the last few years as well. I could probably pick up numbers if I went after smaller fish, but we try to target the bigger fish if we're not keeping them. I can't speak for the numbers of smaller fish, but the numbers for larger class crappie are waaaay down.

Not sure what you mean about the few white crappie in the lake. Of the fish we are catching and at our tournament about 90 % white crappie for us.

Roger, the area of the lake you're fishing has held larger numbers of whites than most all the rest of the lake.
