And I can't wait to start fishing in my new kayak. Just need to customize a bit and get some rod holders installed. Does your sonar transducer sit inside or off the side in the water?

I have an arm that swings down and is held by a magnet. I can fold up out of the way when not needed. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Half the fun is outfitting yourself and seeing what works.

Manufacturer makes a foam type bed for the transducer to sit in, it glues to the inside hull. But, you're supposed to pour water in with the transducer so it will work. Any idea if it works well? Heard of anyone using it and being happy? Also, a u-tube video shows a guy using pvc to fit scotty type rod holders to his kayak. He mounts them flush with the gunwale (do they call the sides of a yak gunwales?) and supports them underneath by bedding them in a piece of wood. Seen anyone use something like that? I like the idea of the flush mount.

If your yak is soiled it should work fine. One of mine is a layered polyethylene, basically two layers with a foam in-between. The transducer "sees" the area as an air gap and won't go through.
