Call Grizzly Jig...They carry a few good paperback books by Tim Huffman...They are excellent , tons of information...Also sign up for Crappie Angler magazine at Grizzly...well done, published in house
In addition to some good books, there are some great magazines worth reading too. I always stay open to learning new techniques and tricks from printed material and then try them out and see what works for you. Reading up will shorten the amount of time you spend on the water confirming wether that technique will work for you and the waters you fish. Like some of the other guys said, this site is awesome with the info that is available here.

Only had my new garmin 7sv out a couple hrs so far,,,,,,its tempting to leave the rods at home and just go riding looking, cept my luck it would have been the one day they were biting
I have found out the the fish around here don't read the same books and watch the same T.V. that I do. What little I know has mostly come from experience.

I'll make this comment: it's one thing to read about crappie patterns and likely locations to find them and then get out on a big river/lake and try to apply what you have read. That's where experience proves it's worth.

I'm thinking both reading, and experience make you a better fisherman.. Time on the water is priceless...having an idea of what you want to do with that time ....just makes for a better day.
