I agree with Chuckster's post earlier about someone's pond. In northern Alabama most bluegill are "relativey" small to average. In April, you can find some really nice shellcrackers. There are some beds around Alreds Marina on Guntersville and some in and around Wheeler State Park on Joe Wheeler Lake. Slab is too funny...
Not sure where you are. In my neck of the woods, Geneva County Lake is a great place to fill a cooler with bluegills and shellcrackers. I personally think the upper lake is better for bream, but there are other locals that argue the lower lake is better.

Guntersville Yacht Club had some huge bream when I was out there in July.
All I ever do is fish in the Town Creek area and look for mussel beds around the islands..
