I use a Gen 1 echo 100 with out GPS to run my outboard. At wot I have never washed it out. I payed 60$ for this unit @ the bargain bin @ Cabelas. For contours you are gonna love it.

I really like Garmin products and use them every day but, that screen size is simply way too small for my old eyes.

Fishing man, I don't know about the Garmin..but I did buy about the same battery in a waterproof box with a charger for $39.99 at Academy last week. (link below) I think you are supposed to charge those batteries real slow and I did not have what I felt like was the right charger. I rigged it up on my kayak along with my Humminbird. I tried it out Saturday for a little while. Have you picked up a new kayak yet? Sounds like you are rigging it up or getting ready to rig.

Not sure about that unit but I have the striker 7SV and its a great unit. I have a Lowrance elite 7 GPS at the console so i just got the chart plotter for the bow. From what i can tell comparing waypoints from my Lowrance to the Garmin they are very close. Also all the units I have had on different boats Garmin is definitely the best returns from sonar/downscan/sidescan.

I have the shadow caster ordered from Dicks sporting goods. Half the fun is rigging them out. Will update when I get it
