I would spider rig and try deep creek channels with cover and river channel ledges with cover. Also find submerged humps and try those.

Deep creek channels with cover? I know I'm pretry much useless when it comes to any fishin other than shooting piers. But I mean what does that exactly mean? I bought what I think is a good depth finder but all I know how to really use it for is water depth and temp. It's a Lowrance elite 5 hdi with chirp. I can see drop offs and all that but the transducer is on the transom. So by the time I find a drop off I have a hard time following it. I've only actually had one fish hook that really looked like a fish while using it. I think I've found schools of bait fish several different times. I dunno. I'm sure I seem stupid but I really want to learn all of this. Anyone know how to long line and read a sonar real well that's out of a boat right now??? Lol I need a guide a few times.

I idle along the channel edge in depth of water I want, then watch sonar for pieces of cover, brush piles, tree stumps, rock piles or whatever then when I'm right over them throw out a buoy marker to mark the spot then stop and fish it. I don't look for fish I look for the cover and the fish will usually be there. I use my electronics to find places to fish I do not rely on just fishing around stuff I can see. I very rarely fish around the banks, I mostly fish out in open water year round. I learned to do all this by reading and studying and fishing tournaments. Most tournaments are won by using these methods. When fishing tournaments you are targeting big fish not numbers of fish. What days are you available to go fishing?

This weekend I'm leaving Friday to go out of town for a family graduation party not sure if I'm coming home Sunday or monday.

Normally can fish anytime on the weekends but I have a family and have to work around a pregnant wife and 5 year old. And I'm in the national guard so I have drill one weekend a month.

I get off at 530 and work in bham. Could fish any night of the week if planned a day or so in advance.

I'm off every Monday. Now that school is out my son will be with me the whole day on Monday. He likes to go fishing so that's not an issue if you don't mind him tagging along.
He's a good kid too well behaved and well mannered.

I would like to try to learn all and would be willing to go on someone else's rig but I want someone with knowledge to go on my rig a time or two also to make sure my set up is good and what I need to add or take awaY.

I just added my depth finder and don't really know how to take full advantage of all its technology and i dont even know if i have all the serring right. Ive only needed it for water temp and depth up to this point. And I just added my rod holders to the front of the boat this year. I have 2 more stands each with two rod holders to put on the back of the boat just haven't had a need for them so haven't added them yet.

I would like to get to where I am knowledgeable and confident enough to fish some tournaments with my wife and one guy that I'm in the military with. His wife is a beast cancer survivor so I've made him my main fishing partner other than my family to help him get away and relieve some stress.
