    Default Side Scan

Looking at Hummingbird side view fish finders. Anyone got experience with these or other brands. Would appreciate any comments from those with hands on experience.

With side scan don't try to scan 300 ft at a time. You lose too much detail. I have mine set at 60 ft right now. I mainly use it while trolling to locate structure to troll over in the next pass. Just waypoint the structure as you go by. If you are shopping watch the videos on you tube they are a great source of info. I use humminbird. The only problem that I have with them is the GPS is not accurate under 2 mph as it bounces. It is amazing what you will find well worth the price you pay

On the site there is an Electronics forum that has a side imaging section. Take a look at it, a lot of times they post pictures of screen shots from their depth finders. I sent a lot of time on that section of the forum reading and studying before I bought mine.

the more you use it the better you will like it. Like mike said adjust your range down to increase your detail. I have mine set on 75 feet. I have a 700 series bird 2d only and the gps does bounce around at low speeds. My 900 series with Di and Si works fine at any speed. Call Brian at BB&G. He is on the classified page. He will give you a great price and can answer any question you have.

Always looking to save money. Pays for more fishing time. I am still in the research mode of what to buy but most of the info I am finding seems to be on Hummingbird. Like to be thorough in my research so I have less buyers remorse. Will check with Brian when ready. Thanks for the lead and advice.

I would not give up my sidescan for anything. I can't tell you how many times it has saved the day. I have a Lowrance HDS touch. The touch screen really simplifies operation. If hummingbird has touch screen, I would seriously look into the touch screen. I've had mine two years now and I am still learning new things while using.

Looking at 999 with SI. Concerned it might be to advanced for a novice on a fishfinder. Hoping will help spot crappie and bass. Will b fishing relatively shallow 8-10 ft muddy lakes for crappie and my home lake is Lewis Smith Lake. Very deep clear water and fish for bass n strippers mostly here. Also does the 999's maps cover this lake with underwater contours etc not just outline of the lake. Thanks for your offer of help.

You will need to buy a navionics or lake masters chip to go in you finder. It is the best money you will spend.
