Default Crappie pond/ pond management starts tomorrow

We gonna clean out the bottom pond and restock with black crappie, bream and minnows. The top pond we are going to add 1000 channel cats 10-11" long. Should be some good fishing in a year or two.

I wish you good luck with the crappie stocking plan!!! And don't want to be a spoil sport but I have heard you never should stock them in any size pond as they produce too many eggs per spawn and will over populate with in 3 to 4 years unless there is heavy fishing for them year round. And they tend to be smallish due to lack of enough food. This was taken from the Florida WFC: "When water temperatures rise in late spring or early summer, crappie begin to search for nesting spots. The female drops from 20,000 to 80,000 eggs, and the male then move in to fertilize."
Using the number you are stocking: Out of a 1000 Crappie if 500 are female then when they get old enough to spawn that will be 500 X taking an average 50000 eggs per momma =25,000,000 potential little ones the first laying .If only 10% survive that will still be 2 .5 million and so on........... gonna need a lot of fishermen and minnows to keep that herd fed!! and under control!! Probably need to schedule Ditch Basser in at least 3 times a week!! ☻

Talked to a lot of peeps that done it with black crappie. Gonna give it a whirl . The ponds have not been stocked or managed in 25 years so it is time to . If it doesn't work ill just clean it out again and start over. Only doing one pond with crappie. I know the catfish will be ok. I talked to a pond management company and a fish supplier. The proof is in the pudding. Bawhahaha ill let y'all know ow it goes.

I know people say not to stock private ponds with crappie, but i fish in two private ponds (one here and one in MS) that have crappie stocked into them, and i have never seen the crappie take over in the several years i've been fishing either pond. In one pond there are bass, catfish, crappie, bluegill, shell crackers, carp and minnows. The crappie there get huge. The other pond just has a bunch of bass, bluegill, shell crackers, white and black crappie, and bait fish. The crappie don't get as big in that pond typically but there are a lot of nice fish. I think that as long as there are minnows and bream to eat the eggs and a bunch of young fry that on average you will get a decent crop of fish. From my experience, the more predators there are of crappie in a small pond the bigger they get. but there may not be as many of em. Good luck to ya, both ponds should be fun to fish for years to come
