    Default Guntersville this past weekend

Had decent mornings Saturday and Sunday on Gville. Floating grass got aggravatiing in areas but most seemed to be grouped in areas and we tried to stay away from these. Caught several other fish as well, white bass, largemouth, catfish, drum, etc. Only had one or 2 short fish (crappie) both days. We kept what we wanted and released the rest.

Fished Sat morning from around 5:30-9:30 and caught 28 (legal size fish). Most were around the 11-13.5" range, only one black crappie. All on crankbaits in about 16-20' of water. Pulled 300 series bandits as most of the fish seemed to be close to the bottom but alot of these seemed to be catfish (caught our fair share of these). We may have been better off with 200's.

Fished Sun morning in a different area from around 6:15-9:45 and caught 47 (legal size fish). All on crankbaits in about 16-18' of water. Pulled 200 series bandits as most of the fish seemed to be suspended a little higher up in the water. Most were around the 11-14" range again, and only one black crappie this morning as well.

    Really nice report.
Have you ever pulled cranks in a river setting? I ask because I've tried them quite a bit on Neely Henry with no success. What color do you use? What speed? How are you sure of your depth? What structure do you concentrate?

    Again, nice report.

We have had one successful trip on Neely and got skunked the next trip. This was last year and I have not tried it since. We have caught several on Logan Martin though. Color varies day to day and sometimes hour to hour. We catch more whites on shad type colors and more blacks on "bug" and crawfish looking colors. Black can also be a good color as well. 1.8 mph is always my starting point and will take it down to 1.6 and up to about 2.1. There are depth charts for the bandits depending on how much line you have out and line size. On my baitcasters, I keep the line marked at 50' and 100' with a sharpie. I have used bobber stops and they will work but tend to get caught in the eyes at times. I do have some line counter reels as well but I can't cast them so I only use them on the rods out the back. I do not concentrate as much on structure as just trying to find suspended fish. On Neely, I would try further down river close to the dam where some of the creeks meet the river.

Yes it did but they were just a little more shallow. Thanks! We will go sometime, I will be over there a good bit this summer. Still looking for the big ones!
