    Default Weiss/Beer?????

Coming to Weiss in March with 4 buddies to get away and do a little fishin'. I like to drink a cold beer or two while on the water. We have a houseboat at Norris in TN. This is no problem here, as long as you aren't actin' a fool, bein loud n such.

Is alcohol consumption allowed on the lake? I read on outdooralabama's boater regulations and it just said that the operator couldn't have more than 0.08 BAC. Read elsewhere that Weiss had a no tolorence alcohol policy. Had another person tell me that if the county was wet, then you could enjoy a few sasparilla's while you fish?

Can anyone tell me the LAW and/or tell me where to find it on the web?

    Thanks, fines suck!

I think Weiss is a dry county?I believe there is a big fat 0 tolerance on alcohol on any waterway in Alabama but you should be fine once your on dry land. I would hate for anyone to vacation in Alabama just to leave on probation. The police don't mess around in this State on the water or dry land..I got TICKET for picking up a arrowhead if that tells you anything..

if you picked it up on refuge land it is from what I understand. I see people all the time down at the river in the winter prowling the banks and they aren't fishing lol. maybe they're looking for Jimmy Hoffa?

I'm curious about the booze laws too. I wouldn't mind a cold beer sometimes when out fishing, I mean the majority of the folks out ripping up the water in the summer have some brews in their cooler.

I think beer is a nono on alabama waterways and tributaries. I have had a few poured out by game wardens over the years. They could have cuffed me but i only had 4 and hadn't drank any. The other time i had 6 that had been in the cooler from the day before, the officer told me he knew i wasn't drunk but was concerned that i had glass bottles and would throw them out. So if you must take a few, get cans, crush and keep the empties, and don't show your arse. I haven't seen a Barney fyfe type game warden since don hale retired. But they very well can take you in. I don't want the hassle anymore, too old.

I've made 2 four day trips to Weiss and I've seen the water patrol more in those 2 trips to Weiss than I have my 50 yrs of fishing in Kentucky. I've read somewhere where it's ZERO but I'm not sure. If your not supposed to have it your chances of getting caught would be pretty good. Plus they seem to want to check to out of state boats as well. So if it was me I'd save my brew for the motel watching Bugs Bunny.

on wheeler they never bother me on the water its when im loading the boat that they check. both times they made me pour mine out i hadnt even drank one that day. i was on swan creek mgt area land and that had something to do with it. if i am lucky enough to fish till sundown i would kill for about 3 or 4 cold ones but i rarely fish that long and its not appealing to me to drink early in the day so i havent taken any in a while. i wait to drink a few while im cleaning them.

i think its bad enough with all the wanna be "KVD" bass fisherman flying all around you, we don't need to add a bunch of drunks to the equation. I'm sorry, but 3 or 4 beers clouds your judgement whether you want to admit it or not. (and yes I enjoy a beer, but not while driving anything!)

He might not be operating the boat, but just fishing, but I'm not sure. I know there are times when I'd love to have a beer while fishin, but only have while night fishing and tied under a bridge and my brother was driving the boat and truck.
