Default Small fish last fall will they be bigger this fall

I have a question for the ones of you that have crappie fished for many years. Last year in the early fall we caught crappie like crazy but the majority were small. Will this fall be the same or will we catch bigger fish. I'm just thinking that the first wave or so of fish that start to come up shallow in the fall are always small or was it a fluke year. Whats your take on this?

    Glynn,

I'm not an expert, but you have to look at trends over time. Seems the smaller fish show up first in spring and fall. That being said the year after a good spawn the little ones seem to be everywhere. There grow rate is weird. If there's enough food and they don't overpopulate Crappie in the south can grow almost 10 inches in a year. Half that is more likely. If you were into the little fish they have moved first or there make have been a good spawn that spring. Crappie also sometimes school in sizes that are close. Not always, but if your catching all little fish make a move, usually the first break into deeper water.

    Good Luck!
