    Default Lake Purdy help

    Hey y'all,
First of all I want to thank everybody here for sharing their wisdom and techniques. I am only 22 and have a helluva lot to learn about crappie fishing, and I'm grateful to have a resource like this forum. I am a senior at UA this year, and I don't own my own boat, so I don't get to fish as much as I would like. My folks live in irondale, near birmingham, and I fish the Cahaba there a lot (never caught a crappie in the cahaba further north than centreville though).

I go to Lake Purdy occasionally and rent a jon boat to fish, and I think I'm going to go back out there in about a week. Do any of the fisherman on here have experience fishing lake Purdy?

I have a friend who I fish with on lay lake and logan martin out of his jonboat sometimes as well. What would be the best way to try and catch crappie on those lakes after christmas?

On a side note, the lake purdy store is offering $100 for the biggest chain pickerel of december. Do any of y'all have experience with or stories about catching pickerel in winter?

Thanks for any and all help
    Aaron

You can go to lakepurdyfishing.com. There's lots of good pics on there and they usually keep some up to date fishing reports. I've only really fished out there during the spring and can tell you that they tear it up over there. You won't catch a lot of big ones. But plenty of 10 and 11" fish. During spring I just fish all laydowns. They all seem to produce using minnows or jigs. This time of the year, I've heard of folks catching them on submerged brush, vertical jigging. Of coarse, you would have to have a portable fish finder to find the submerged brush. If you don't have a graph, I would suggest fishing all the laydowns that are in deeper water and you should catch some.

Chain pickerel will hit a beatle spin or minnows at the sametime you are fishing for crappie.

Hey thanks everybody for the help. Bananapeel thanks for sharing your story. Where do you go to school?

The website is helpful, i'm thinking about going Thursday.

I really enjoy fishin at lake purdy. I went to the cahaba near the 78 bridge today and fisned a pool . The water is high and fast from all the rain. I only had a couple hours but i managed to catch one channel cat that was maybe 14 inches and hooked into another. I had a lot of bites fishing with nightcrawlers.

Wahanlin, you want to team up with me on Lake Purdy next weekend and do some Crappie fishing? We can split the rental cost.

Hey man. I have actually been in Puerto Rico working for a few weeks and I get back tomorrow. I am working This weekend but I am interested in getting together to fish one weekend soon. The fish should be turning on before long. PM me your number and I'll give you a call when I get back. Aaron
