Thread: Blk and Whites on gville

Just think about what would happen if the White Crappie and the Black Crappie crossbreed. Then we would have gray crappie that were huge and fought like a hybrid.

Got a group of guys that goes down in spring and fishes gville, two of the guys fish the golf course at goose pond and they do rather well. Myself and partner fish over on S. Sauty, we found a couple of hot spots over there that produce rather well

I caught a white out at Prestone Island last week. First white I had ever caught on the Big G. Guys that have been around for a while tell me it used to be all whites at one time.

I normally catch 100 to 1 blacks over whites on Guntersville. However I have noticed this year I have caught more whites than I ever have before so far. It is still like only 10 percent though if that much. One thing that me and a few friends have noticed though we had been catching some that looked very similar to black nose crappie as well

That's right. I catch mostly blacks now but back in the late 80's, early 90's caught mostly whites.

Years ago before the vegetation started in the lake you very rarely caught a black crappie, unless you were fishing in Town Creek or South Sauty. White Crappie thrive in a little murky to slightly muddy water enviroment and Black Crappie thrive in the clearer waters. I watched the White Crappie population dwindle away as the vegetation moved through the lake and the Black Crappie population started increasing. The Black Crappie adapted to the changes in the lake better than the Whites and I don't feel that the White Crappie will ever make a big come back in the lake because of the water clarity. There are a few areas of the lake that you can catch some Whites and I think it will continue to be only a few areas to catch them in the future.
