I fished three times on Wilson during the Christmas and New Years weeks. ON three trips i caught about 6 crappie all together. Had trouble with catfish most of the time as they would not leave my jigs and minnows alone. Fished tributary creek channel edges with brush in 20 to 30' of water which is useually the ticket this time of year. Im not sure what is going on but some of the old timers that live on the lake stopped by and told me they were not catching any either. surface temps were in the mid to upper forties. They may still be scatered as the water was more than likly warmer in the deeper and mid depths or i do not know what im doing. By no means am i an expert on Wilson but i do 90% of my crappie fishing there because it is so close to home. Hopefully, with the last week temps so cold they should be stacking up for the winter which will make them easier to catch.

I had some friends that loaded up on saltwater stripers below wheeler dam last week. they had 15 to 20 pounders and a bunch of them.

    Hope this helps.

usually wilson is good this time of year. Surprised at the poor fishing reports.

Crappie Fishing has been good in Blue Water Creek that flows into Wilson Lake this February 2012. This winter is much milder so crappie active early. Go into Blue Water Creek back to the bluff near log jam in bend. Most crappie I caught were on opposite bank from the bluff around boat docks and in open water. Cast out Slider grub let sink a couple of feet and reel back to boat. The water was 6 to 8 foot deep, 52 degrees.

Also some caught this year in Shoal Creek near Happy Hollow under boat docks that had about 20' of water. Most were small but some keepers. Not all docks have crappie.

TVA has records of the number of fish in a lake (they do shock test and count fish). You can go to their web site and see results. Wilson Lake is rated no so good but at times crappie fishing is good; seems like there is a cycle of good and bad years.

You could also try Town Creek. I've had decent luck in recent years, but I don't fish i that often. It has some nice shallow flats with some decent deeper water.
