can anyone tell me how to make a set of bridge clamps, i have heard people talking about them and it sounds like it would be a lot easer than trying to tie off with a rope under some of these bridges

Take care when doing this. Please check your local and federal laws concerning anchoring to, or under a bridge.

Our Arkansas Boat Handbook notes that new Homeland Security regulations prohibit stopping under, or anchoring to or under a bridge.

And, I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question. I have an idea or two, but have never made anything for this but have wanted to until these new regulations were brought to my attention.

I made two different types. One is a C clamp welded on 4' rod. I drilled a hole in the other end of the rod and put a garage door spring on it and then a metal ring where I tie my line in, that takes the shock off the boat and the clamp pretty well.
The other type is rebar bent into an S shape, one end is wider and circles back to the main part but has a gap. the other end has a smaller loop and touches the main part to create a closed loop where I tie my line. Both have thier place.
Since I made em up I haven't used em much. I haven't fished much this year and have been able to find them in open water when I went.

I've seen carpenters pipe clamps in a guys boat I fished with a few times. One end slides and the other screws tight. Looked like a good idea to me.

we use the 2X4's between the the beams too, eyebolt in the center, with adjustable straps and bungie cords. also cut up an old tire and tacked pieces to the ends of the boards so they wouldn't slide as much.
