    Default Crappie At Night

Have never been fishing at night for Crappie. Sounds like a lot of fun.

hey whit, about all you need is some floating crappie lights, a couple of anchors to hold the boat still, and a cap light to see the end of your rods, some guys use the lighted floats for night as well

Most any kind of light over the side of the boat will do....heck, a lantern worked many years ago. Need some kind of light overhead to see how to bait hooks with, or a cap light if you think that's enough. Also need a few rod holders to hold your ultralite rods (also a must) so you can "see" the bite since most are light bites. (If you aint got light rods you could get by using slip floats instead.) And a pair of anchors. Youre set enough to go fishing....and now you can work up from there getting better "toys" for night fishing.

A good submersible light (green) or floating lights, a cap light, and some pole holders. I do not use floats I just tightline. You can rig your rods with some original stren or mr. crappie hi vis yellow and use a blacklight to detect even the slightest bite. If you are going to fish under a bridge and the depth is 20 ft plus you will want to make some bridge clamps. An anchor will not do very well if there is wind or current.

Good info here for sure. I have not used any of the green underwater lights yet but I hear they work good. I have a CrappiCandle but I have been unable to find any batteries for it.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I picked up one of those green submergable lights at Dick's for 20 dollars. When you let it down how deep do you start out? Do you try and fish just above or below it or right at the same depth, or just keep adjusting until you find out what works that night.

Watch your depth finder for the mass of bait fish. The crappie will come up from the bottom to make the strike. I would fish out at the very edge of the light in the shadows at the bottom of where your bait fish are. If you mark them at 10 foot then try 10.5/ You will have to have several rods at different depths to find where they hit most
