I've always heard you can't raise Honeybees anywhere near Purple Martins. Since I'm hardheaded I had to prove all the Interweb experts wrong. I've had around 100 nesting pairs of Purple Martins for the past 15 years and I've been keeping bees for 6 years. This evening was the first time I ever saw the two of them meet face to face though. Seems like this swarm of bees had martin gourds on their mind. Including the "tunnel" entrance that gourd is 14" long. I think there were as many bees inside it as there was outside. Got em back into a hive again, about 40 feet from the gourd rack.
