I've seen turtles here out swimming with ice on the lake. I guess some don't hibernate. They like to follow me around and try to eat my float then when I see them dive down I reel in. Caught a bunch of those in my time, will certainly eat a jig.
and round here it will go away midday next week too ....
these really chilly mornings got all the reptiles really wanting some after noon basking time no doubt ....

Snakes don't bother me, had some as pets over the years. Caught a big water snake when I was a kid and put it in a metal minnow bucket to take home. It escaped the bucket and wrapped itself around my dad's leg for the entire ride home. Stopped at a lake close to home and parents made me let it go. They are escape artists.
they sure can bro and at the size of them river cooters they make a rather large distracting SPLASH , one thing that is interesting though is one of them is way more likely to watch me with a side eye than jump , we had us a few conversations about getting all jumpy over lil ole me and it might be it understands I ain't the enemy ....
