Alot will depend on the rains coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Clark Hill should be fishable by mid week this week then more rains.
Trip planned for Clark Hill next week...per reports it's dangerous and muddy.
May divert to Lake Murray if recommend by knowledge fishermen.
Crappie fishing is our main focus.
Any info/recommendations appreciated as we haven fished there.
Not looking for specific hot spots, just general conditions.
Thanks in advance.

I fished it yesterday. All the upper lake is a mudhole. Thats generally where i find the most crappie. If you are a livescoper, down lake is much better clarity, but fish are more scattered. Trolling doesnt seem to do well down lake. Saluda river is running red and wont change much by the weekend.

Appreciate the response. We only single cast with jigs, no trolling or FFS. We do try and shoot jigs under docks once in awhile.
Since it to late to cancel reservation at Elijah Clark guess we will just enjoy being away from work and hope to catch a fish or two.

Give us a report. I want to try the Hill soon.
Go south of Elijah Clark towards lower end of lake.

If you trailer over to Cherokee Recreation Area you should be able to find much better looking water on Clark’s Hill. Look in Cherokee Creek, Grays Creek and on back in Keg Creek. One or all of those should be holding good numbers of fish.

Again, all replies very much appreciated.
Thanks for the suggestion of the Cherokee Rec Area, not very familiar with it but have good maps and will definitely give it a shot.

I don't profess to be a good crappie fisherman, much more of a hybrid and striper fisherman. But when the lake gets trashed like this, that's the section of the lake I head to. Always seems to be cleaner water. Then as you go back into those creeks I mentioned (the creek by Mistletoe as well) you will be able to usually find where it is transitioning from fairly clean to stained that the bait and crappie seem to like. I've been fishing Hartwell a lot more lately and the bait and crappie/hybrids definitely seem to be in the back 3rd of the creeks wherever that transition to stain is.
By the way, if the pattern is anything like Hartwell right now and you get on back in the creeks where a lot of bait is, if you cast a Pearl Bobby Garland Baby Shad on a 1/16 oz jig head you can catch a little bit of everything. Spots, Hybrids and Crappie all will eat it up. I'm not fishing the banks either. The fish have been out in open water crashing those shad schools sub surface. Obviously FFS helps but you can do fine without it if you get around the bait.
