I've had success with Slabinator Scent Sticks. Slabsauce helps with any bait also.
Though I live less than 5 miles from Kentucky Lake, I am surrounded by a lot of ponds, which I prefer. I have been looking at some of new (to me) scent infused artificial baits for bluegills. Some of the Gulp brands look interesting. Are there any others I should investigate?

them tiny gulp minnows are just flat our deadly on bream , but they tear up really fast , one of the best artificial baits in some spots without a doubt , went thru a bunch one day loading an ice chest , man did the bluegill love them
the worms have never really wore them down for me ,but they will eat them from time to time .
and the crickets about the same as well ...
hard to beat tiny pcs. of cheap hotdogs in lots of spots though, just saying

Those Gulp Minnows and Fish Fry work great for me. Tried the Worms but didn’t have too much luck with them.

I ordered a Panfish Magnet Kit. Wow! Those are tiny. A trip to Wal-Mart netted some Gulp Earthworms, also, tiny.
If these work out, I don't think I'll miss live bait at all.

Up until about 2009 all I used to chase brim were crickets. I mean I was fishing 5 days a week 10 hours a day. I ordered crickets by the case. Then I started fishing Trout Magnet and gave up on live bait for good. The Gulp minnows are very good also but I don’t like the mess they create. If you’re going to fish the Gulp minnows I suggest you get a urine specimen cup to keep them in. That jar is not sealable at all and will leak.

I’ve had great success with Berkeley Power Baits. Their minnow baits and action waxies are my favorites….

yeppers Alpha , that there juice they swim in, is kinda nasty for sure .....
that and the lack of durability keeps them out of my tackle box ....
and the bags and bottles both tend to leak like you said ....
