Fox squirrels used to be dominant here. See very few now. Lots of black squirrels and grays have an undercoat of brown here.

I got out this morning and got a limit(5) of fox squirrels. I'm using a scoped Ruger 10/22 and a Mr. Squirrel call. First one was a classic spot and stalk without the call, #'s 2&3 came to the call, one from the left and one from the right. Same with #'s 4&5. If you've never used a Mr. Squirrel you need to get one. It's amazing how well they work. These 5 are going to my mother who turns 91 tomorrow and gets a limit of squirrels every year for her birthday.

That is awesome. I hunt between Baldwin and Ludington and fox squirrels are scarce here. My wife saw a black squirrel with a white tip on its tail today. Would like a Crack at that one. How does your Mom like her squirrels cooked?

Floured and browned then add some water and cover. Cook it low and slow until it is tender. If you need some tails let me know, I could save some for you.

Something cool happened today. The Mr. Squirrel is a whistle that imitates a young squirrel in distress. I shake a sapling while I blow it to make it sound like a youngster being attacked by a hawk. I blew a couple of rounds and caught movement to my right. A real nice buck was bedded down in some pokeweed maybe 50 yards away, stood up and walked to 30 yards and bedded down again. I got a good look at his rack through the binoculars, 8 point around 15" wide inside with good mass and long tines.

Great way to cook squirrel. Thanks for the offer. I'm trying hard to get me a fox squirrel this year. I love squirrel hunting because of those types of interaction with deer. I mouth call squirrels but will check out the Mr. Squirrel. Calling all types of game makes it much more enjoyable. Thanks for the info.

Those Mr Squirrel whistles have been around forever. I remember them from outdoor shows in the 80's
