I actually just caught my personal best at 17" and 2.8 pounds. She was way pre-spawn and I think if I caught the same fish today that she'd be over 3, but that's how it goes. I'm fishing a relatively new lake to me and while it doesn't have tons of Crappie, it does have some big ones, so I actually expect to surpass that PB at some point.

Up until this year I didn't carry a scale, but in Jan. on lake Woodruff (St.Johns river) I caught a 2.24lb Black crappie longlining with planner boards. I try every winter in Florida to make it to the 3 lb club, lol

I have caught a lot of giant black crappie built with huge shoulders and bellies and I don't think a 17" fish is going to get there. I caught a very fat 17.5" fish at 2.94 lbs last year. Three pounds and bigger fish are there, but in almost all waters are still rare.
