Depending on how pressured they are for sure. I will spotlock while shooting docks if there is a slight breeze for the motor to lean against. A lot of the times I will use the remote to hold the boat allowing for a more stealthy approach.
Spotlock is great for a lot of things, but it’s been my experience that you absolutely cannot spotlock close to crappies unless they are 20ft deep or more. As seen on my livescope you will spook them every time and keep them moving around. What are your thoughts on this? I never realized how spooky crappies were until I got livescope

Spot lock is fine for taking a fish off or retying but not much good for actually fishing from.

I fished with a guy who used spot lock very effectively in water as shallow as 15’ and we were vertical jigging.

I have seen them spook at 15ft deep and not move a inch in 4ft of water. Heck I have seen them swim directly under a boat to avoid the sun. They are some finicky critters.

I sit a minimium of 15 ft. off of fish & out to around 40 ft. if needed.

My home lake is heavily pressured and also very recreational during that time of year.
Spot lock definitely spooks fish!!!
I can’t get within 15 ft of them most of the time.
Now I stealth my way to the fish.
Hardly ever use the remote unless I am pushing minnows.
I consider the lake being always pretty clear to stained. I’m sure muddy and dark tea colored water would easier to fish but nothing like that around here. I’ve tried rods as long as 16 ft and still spooky.
I have to stay up to 20 ft away and pitch to them.
I still love spot lock for changing baits and eating a sandwich or just taking a break.
