Some Nice ‘uns !
... but they wuz good 'erns. A front was moving thru, it got windy (east), and fish weren't biting well. I only managed a few fish in 3-4 hours, but they were fine examples of their species. Shellcracker was 10.5" and fought like a devil, big spawned-out male looking crappie was pushing 15", didn't weigh it. So, I got my new JDM Abu Garcia 67SULT top half broke in.
In other news, a reminder to check your trailer bearings now and then - I had a trashed hub and wheel about to fall the heck off! Got it fixed, but ordered a whole new axle anyway. The trailer (axle) is from 1984, btw.

When I hooked the big 'cracker, I was using a 1.5 g #8 gekka-jig in glow color, with a sowbug trout magnet. I first thought I had a 2 lb+ Kentucky spot, which are common in this water, as the fish dug hard, and stripped drag on long runs. When I finally laid eyes on it, I may have said a few SHOOT FIREs and some other colorful exclamations. Wow. I could not catch a second one of that caliber, alas. Such are the mysteries of this lake - 3 years hard fishing and I barely know it.
Some good fish, I agree. Love the way you can tell a cracker against his neighbors by the caliber of the fight. Keep. After em, you’ll find some more one day. I only hope you understand why you found them when you do find em so you can do it again somewhere else.
