Lubrication is a good idea when chasing threads. If the threads are not damaged badly you should not have much trouble chasing them using the channel locks
The axle threads on the starboard side of my boat trailer won't allow me to thread the axle nut back on smoothly. I just bought a thread chaser for my 1" axle. 1-14 fine. I can't find a socket or a handle large enough to assist in chasing the threads. Wish me luck as I carefully use channel locks to work the thread chasing nut onto my damaged axle threads. If anyone can provide any helpful ideas on this operation it would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the chaser goes on straight and proceed with caution. Good luck

I had the same problem many years age. I used channel lock pliers. I happen to have some cutting oil that helped me lubricate and straighten the threats. As said before in the threat be careful to get the chaser started straight. Good luck!!!!

Success!!!! Threads have been successfully chased. Axle nut spins on freely. Slow and steady with lots of lubrication was the ticket. Thanks for all who responded. Have a Crappie Day!!!!!!
Good job. Glad it worked well for ya
