    Default Deer Tracking by Scout

With deer season coming to an end here in Bama I just thought I would post some pics of a few of the deer my pup helped recover this season. In all she was able to recover 21 deer. We tracked several more that either went on a property we did not have permission to be on, were not very injured or we couldn't catch up with to finish off.

My daughter shot this deer. We could not find any blood or sign of hit at the shot sight but she was confident she hit the deer. The deer went about 150 yds without a drop of blood. Quick and easy track.

Doe shot by friends daughter. She shot here first 2 deer ever in the same morning. He said she missed the one but we took the dog over anyway. About 110 yds later and not a drop of blood or sign of a hit the GPS collar showed her stopped at a location. We walk down there and she is chewing on the dead deer.

Deer shot by kid with shotgun. Deer left with no sign of being hit but was in a thick area. Deer did not go but 75 yds or so but no blood. Another quick and easy track.

Liver shot with rifle. Deer went about 450 yds on a mountain side before turning down the mountain to die within 40 yds of someone's house. On and off blood for the first couple hundred yards but nothing the last 250 yds or so.

This one was a fun one. The deer was shot by a kid with a 30.30 at 25 yds. Bullet went through both shoulder and front part of both lungs. Bullet did not look to expand very well. They had already tracked it 700 yds to a creek before we got there. When we arrived she went to the creek and looked around in it. I sent her to the other side where she seemed to hit on a trail. I brought her back and she did the same thing so we made out away around to the other side of the creek. We tracked for about 500 more yards until she jumped the buck up. After running it for another 1200 yds she caught up with it and stopped it. The buck got her with a horn before we could get there to finish him off. 400 yds more in we were able to catch up to him barely making it and the kid was able to finish him off. All in all this deer went 2800 yds, crossed 2 creeks, 2 swamps, a briar thicket, and open field, and caught up with him in another swamp.

260#+ and probably 7-8 year old deer.

400 yrd track in the pouring rain and sleet. Deer was shot in the hindquarter and with all the rain the hunter had no blood after 50 yards.
