Yes , just recently had a 6’ rod that showed up broken about 10” above the handle . It was packed in a hard cardboard tube that are almost indestructible, but the USPS somehow found a way to turn it into an “L” .
Not the first rod I’ve had show up broken .
I tried to bend the other end to fit it into the trash can and had to take a saw to it.

I have ordered many rods over the years and only received one that was broken. It was a green Wally Marshall rod which was a two piece rod. The shipper sent it as a one piece and the rod was snapped in half. I have looking for a good top section for 8 years or so. Good shippers will send them in a PVC tube. I have still have several of tubes in my shop in case I ever have to ship a rod.
I have an unusual take on what happens during usps shipping as I pulled mail for 5 years. The rolling containers that the mail is sorted into at the sorting centers are different sizes. Hampers, wires, BMC’s are all used for packages but the bigger, longer items go into the BMC’s as they’re the biggest. The clerks stick a tube in straight up and down and while it will clear the doors to get to the dock, the truck doors are lower and they little to no consideration of keeping that tube intact. Sometimes they just get pushed over if there’s room in the container but when there isn’t, the tube and it’s contents fold over and break the contents. I’ve seen it many times. I cringe when I think of having a rod over 6’ shipped to me and will request UPS at a higher price if that’s an option. I also agree that PVC is the ticket but the cost is high. I just spent $30+ to send a couple of rods to a member a few months back. Arrived as shipped.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
