Some very nice fish there, especially since it hasn’t been that long from the fish kill. Even the hawk wants to get in on the action!

I fished a city park lake yesterday and found some willing fish. My oldest granddaughter, Lucianna stopped by for a visit and got into the act catching a slab and a couple redear. This cement pond suffered a massive fish kill last year and this was the first time I fished it all year. Somebody must be stocking crappie in here because the conservation department doesn't stock crappie in these smaller lakes. I was using a 1/32 shad dart on a #10 sickle hook tipped with a waxworm. Had a falcon or hawk pay me a visit as well.

I went back the next morning and had a blast catching mostly small Black crappie but did catch one nice white crappie. Before it used to have about 95% white crappie but now it appears the black crappie are dominating. Only one white caught out of the 40 or so crappie that I caught in the two days but it was a slab. I had never caught a redear at this lake before but they put some in there now. They look healthy but only 5-6 inches long. I don't know what they are eating but all the fish look fat and healthy, even the bass. Four of the six bass over 8lbs. that I have caught in my lifetime were caught at this lake. Best part is I had the whole lake to myself.
Mother Nature may have stocked it. Ducks and Herons will land in a lake or pond where fish are propagating and get fish eggs on their feet. They will then fly to another pond and the eggs will wash off and hatch.
When I lived in Texas they were building a Mega-Cinema behind a large mall. The road back to the cinema was two lane divided by an island with cement ponds between the lanes. I went back to see what they were doing and noticed some activity on the surface of the water. I always carry a 5wt fly-rod in the truck so I parked and flipped a small rubber spider to what ever was causing the disturbance. In a flash I caught bluegills and little bank-runner bass.
