I prefer hair jigs year round. Don't have to mess with changing out worn out tails. I'll catch hundreds of them on one hair jig unless I get hung up or something big busts it off. I used to prefer live minnows but I think a hair jig with a nibble on it may actually outfish minnows because it's more efficient.

I usually start with soft plastics, but if the bite is finicky I will try hair jigs. They sometimes make the difference when there is a pickier bite...cold front, clearer water, falling water, lots of fishing pressure, those types of situations.

Although my hair jigs tend to be a little smaller than most of the plastics I use, the size is not always what makes the difference. I will try smaller plastics as well, and sometimes it has to be the hair jig.

Watched Richard Gene using them under a bridge night stalking using little hand ties

NEVER , they seem to be costly and so pretty and the very nicest of the bunch ALWAYS find something that keeps them , most of the time its FIRST DROP !

lots of times a feather jig will hurt them better than a plastic in the winter dead man contest

I've tied my own jigs for over 30 yrs.,and pour my own heads and have about the same luck as plastic . but i only tie about 7-8 colors for the lakes i fish.
I would agree with you, but then we would both be WRONG !!!!

I use hand tied jigs year round. I tie my own and do as previously mentioned and tie certain colors for certain lakes. I see no difference in the bite at any time of the year.Name: crappiejig.jpg
