What time is it? IT'S CRAPPIE TIME!
I use a larger diameter line like 8 lb. mono to fill much of the spool and then use a blood knot to tie on the 4 lb. I know a blood knot will work well joining 4 to 4 also because I've used it to create droppers in the leader before. Getting hard to tie with my older eyes now though.

alberto is another knot that has a small footprint. I use it for tying backer line to the line I want to use along with using it to tie leaders. Typically fluorocarbon to braid.

Nail knot to Nail knot- easy to manage with one of the two dollar tools.
Maybe they will bite this one……pescador thanked you for this post
The nice thing about this operation is that you can do it at home with good light. My eyes are not that great for close work anymore either, but at home you can take your time. The Uni to Uni might be a good one.

I used to use a blood knot, but lately have just been using a twice thru surgeons knot which is much easier.
Who cares if it is slightly larger, it wont be going thru the guides anyway.
