The spider riggers love the remote and the jig pollers love the foot control.
I got a new boat and I am trying to decide which trolling motor I want to put on it - would appreciate some input. Curious if you guys use a foot pedal or a remote or some combination - so again which do you use and why. For years I have used a motorguide and got use to a foot operated pedal. However on our trout boat it has a terrova and I use that remote some. I am looking at the new motorguide pro tour, lowrance ghost or a minnkota ultrex. I have been told with these models the foot control is more responsive. Also, in considering a trolling motor which type is more useful while chasing down fish with livescope. Again I would appreciate you guys comments.
It really boils down to how you like to fish.
If you like to throw jigs at stuff, docks, timber, whatever, you'll want the cable steer. An electric steer takes several seconds to turn all the way around, a cable steer will whip around in no time.
If you mostly longline, spider rig, or pull cranks, an electric steer/ipilot with a remote will likely suit you just fine.
The Ultrex gives you the best of both worlds, having both Ipilot and a cable steer pedal.
I have no Experience with the Ghost or the Force, however they claim to have the response of a cable motor, even though they are electric.
Ultrex.
I have not got to check out the Force though.

Of the motors listed , I have had 2 ultrex. One 30v and one 24v. I really like the Ultrex as it does everything I ask it to do. I like spot lock a lot and I use it a lot. Stop on my spot and can retie easily. Stays put in the wind. Easy to deploy and pick up to leave. I'm a big dude and I sometimes use spot lock just so I can get a rest by sitting in passenger seat and stretch my legs on rod locker while still fishing a brush pile.
I have nothing negative nor positive to say about Garmin or Lowrance trolling motors because I haven't used one. Have no vested interest in Minn Kota. But I do recommend Minn Kota Ultrex based on experience. And they have worked out most of the kinks as they have been on market a few years. The others are still pretty much new and if I were considering a new trolling motor I'd take that into consideration.
Another thing to factor in, important to me anyway, is service centers for warranty issues. We have authorized Minn Kota place not to far away.
Regardless of your choice-- Good Luck!
I spoke with a reputable Tm shop for some basic parts a while back and got into the conversation of terrova vs XI5. Without much questioning he went into how difficult the motor guide folks were to deal with and about the excess time taken to order and receive parts. He services all motors so he has no particular dog in the race, he makes money one way or the other. If he’s that unhappy with MG on his level, I don’t want to find out what it’s like on my level. I’ve used MK for a lot of years and wouldn’t have a MG now but it was the cheapest alternative and it’s also a cable steer. The PD V2 on my skiff is over ten years old and still doing the deal just fine. It’s a riptide salt water model with auto pilot and co pilot in70 pounds of thrust.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I really like my ulterra! Can use foot pad or remote at the same time ! Sometimes I use both ! I have heard folks say they get slow response but I don’t Seam to have that problem ! I love it . It makes launching so easy for a one man and I fish a lot of real skinny water so raising the trolling motor shaft Is easy a pushing a button!

The only real issue with terrova ( I have one), is mounting transducers, and that thought extends to live scope/active Target also as there is no way to mount on shaft w/o spending $$$ or fabricating....
Certainly not insurmountable, but something to think about
